Badly parked cars

On my way to school I noticed lots of cars which were parked on grass and pavements. It seems to be a problem in the whole Warsaw. Car drivers sometimes don't care where they park their cars. It can be a grass which will turn in to muddy puddle in a moment or it can be a pavement where the cars leave no space for pedestrians. Although not only the drivers should be blamed for this but also city planners who allow to built apartment blocks, shops, and many other facilities everywhere but do not think about making parking spaces near them. As a result drivers park illegally on grass or pavement because it is usually hard to find a place to park somewhere near the place you want to go. I think that more parking spaces should be built, it will be helpful for drivers and also won't interrupt pedestrians on their way. Also it just look better if there is parking space rather than awry parked car on the dirt that used to be grass.

  1. This brings us back to the question discussed in class: who are cities for? Drivers or pedestrians? If we cover the city with parking lots, there will hardly be room for anything else, like parks, fountans, cycling trails, outside cafes, etc.

  2. Or maybe solution to this would be to try to decrease the amount of cars that would need such parking spot? Even now there are some voices among experts that the future or transportation lies in shared usage of cars etc. Maybe if people switched from owning a car to renting one just when it’s necessary - by using. I. E car sharing applications that are v.popular in Warsaw rn, the problem of badly parked cars could disappear, as more parking spaces would be free on a daily basis :)
